I think we have powerful proto-fascist movements in this country, and I look at the Tea Party, the militia, the Christian right, where they celebrate the language of violence, they celebrate the gun culture. And they channel what I would describe as a very legitimate rage and a legitimate sense of betrayal towards the vulnerable, towards Muslims, towards undocumented workers, towards h*mosexuals, intellectuals, feminists, liberals. They have a long list of people they don't like. And I think that is a very - remains a very frightening and powerful undercurrent within American society.

Interesting to note that the United Nations directive regarding spanking was ratified by almost 200 countries with only the United States and Somalia refusing to sign off. So, I think your rant is misplaced. Americans and Somalians reserve the right to spank. Why aren't you complaining about the Congo?

I failed to mention , that I wasn't spanked as a child, and I didn't spank my children. Yes, in the good old days children were spanked and abused without government interference, just as they are today.

There is just so much wrong with your post.
The biggest thing is your implication that kids are taken away from parents who spank them. That means that you don't know what child abuse is. And neglect charges.....for letting kids explore? Do you not understand just what neglect is?
Please. Whine about something you know something about.
"Our children are being held captive inside their own homes...by our intruding government....."
Anybody as paranoid as naive as you should think twice before having children.

My children were never out of control , neither are my grandchildren.
Yes , in the good old days children could roam in the woods and through the neighborhood without adult supervision, but we knew everyone in the neighborhood, a stranger could be spotted a mile off. We didn't lock our doors either, which had nothing to do with child rearing.
You're assuming that no one knows how to raise children, just because some don't.

No, the wandered and played by themselves all the time. Used to ride the train by themselves and would fly cross the ocean unattended. We were just not spankers.

This is seen in something as simple as disciplining our children. When I was growing up..teachers and principals could put the fear of God in us with just the threat of a good whoopin. The same goes with the same threats from our parents. We roamed the woods...the wilderness. ..God's creation on our own..With siblings....or with friends without our parents being on our heels...and without our parents forcing us to call them every five minutes from cell phones. However...now if it is brought up to social services that we spank our children...or that we have left them alone to explore...play...BE A KID...and no something happens to them...The parents are brought up on abuse or neglect charges! And we wonder why our children are out of control...and need "medicating" to help with their attention and energy levels. Our children are being held captive inside their own homes...by our intruding government...and we don't see this? Progressive?....really?
