What do you think about North Carolina passing the law to legalize pot.

The risks of smoking pot is no worse then some of the side effects of prescription drugs. They would legalize it if they could control it and tax it. Just my opinion.

For clarification, J.T....my last comment had nothing to do with the bill being passed and was just a general comment on how people should be educated on marijuana...smoked or otherwise (considering all you hear lately is how wonderful a drug it is). People smoking it today don't give a crap about how the second hand smoke DOES effect those around them.

All drugs have side effect or dangers the questions is which is worst the drug or the medical condition. But if you had bothered to research the subject you would have seen that the NC bill only allows the oil which means no smoking or second hand smoke.

People should be educated on the health risks of marijuana...the side effects (heart/blood pressure problems, lung cancer and other lung problems, impaired mental function). Also educate them to the risks of adverse drug interactions and the fact that their precious mary jane weakens their immune systems...not that health or is the driving force behind recreational drug use anyway...bless 'em. Remind them of the effect second hand smoke has on innocent children and pets because we know they aren't going to be thinking of their responsibilities while they are puffing. And please remind them that tobacco smoke smells bad enough but marijuana smoke on clothing smells like you smoked a dog poop laced doobie. In short...you stink and that should be illegal.

if the law passes for Medical Marijuana Usage...then those who have a prescription will use it for their condition....but let's see what kind of parameters are placed on it...I would vote for it....

The women with children that are dying because of multiple seizures have pushed for this law and have persuaded these states to pass this law and it reads in part like a list of states previously most resistant to changes in marijuana laws.

Alabama, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Wisconsin

Missouri and now North Carolina

22 other states have medical cannabis that is not limited just to seizures.

I would agree to approve the medicinal use of marijuana only. Recreational use, no. Could not imagine what it would say about our state to make marijuana legal and still hold firm to stupid laws denying so many the right to legally marry the person they love. Then again, if state lawmakers had a smoke every now and then things might improve in NC. Statewide munchies would be good for the food industry...

I believe the bill could be attacked in court as unconstitutional since it only applies to one medical condition. All it will take is a equal protection lawsuit from someone who can show proof that it could help them also.

Some feel the bill is so limited and drafted in a way as to likely be practically and legally impossible to implement and therefore will be symbolic only. A bill to have a public vote to legalize medical cannabis for other medical issues (not just seizures) was introduced prior to this bill being introduced and is expected to go nowhere.

i think it should be legal its well known alot of cancer patients it helps them so for medical purposes yes it should be why deny the sick any feeling of feeling some better even ifs only for a little while. they need it. never done it myself and wouldnt unless the doctor told me too but for those who need it they should be able to legally.

The Senate approved the legislation Thursday by a 45-0 and the House followed with approval of final revisions with a 112-1 vote.
Gov. Pat McCrory has said he will sign the legislation into law and is expected to do so in the coming week.
"This law will help ease the suffering endured by children from whom no other treatments are effective against their seizures," McCrory said in a statement.
The legislation legalizes the use of the hemp oil extract in North Carolina only for those with intractable epilepsy who have not responded to at least three treatments and are under the care of a neurologist.

The medical claims are dubious at best. If the stuff really worked, some pharmaceutical company would have a patent on the chemical that is beneficial. Just be honest and legalize the stuff for everybody. That way the whole culture can have a buzz whenever they like.

You have no idea what you are talking about do you. it has been shown to help many people and some of the strains of pot are very low in THC and high in another chemical that doesn't get you high. I had an experience with this my self once after receiving a blow to the head giving me a concussion that gave me a headache and made me sick to my stomach. The meds that the doctor gave me weren't doing any good after a friend talked me into smoking some pot with him it calmed my stomach down and I was able to eat it also got rid of my headache.

I have no desire to smoke pot , I rarely drink alcohol .

Oh yes, didn't they legalize alcohol? Made it more acceptable to young people and teens as it is condoned by society (legal.) Heard a guy say "I don't do drugs, I just drink." (He is an alcoholic.) I would have legalized the sales of alcohol but what's right is not what we are talking about here. It's all about the money so yes, from past actions it will be legalized. And I am just wondering if society 'condones' smoking pot what will follow?

I don't have a problem with legalization and taxation of pot, I do have a problem with leaving it up to Physicians to prescribe pot for medical purposes. Don't place our physicians in this position, if you want to legalize use do so and be done with it.

It all relates to the "Gupta Effect". When CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta's report highlighting how high-CBD marijuana products control debilitating seizures among children suffering from Dravet's syndrome (the most severe form of childhood epilepsy) went public.

In the second program Dr. Gupta made it clear that while CBD appeared to be the primary therapeutic ingredient for this class of patients, he also made the point that some level of THC was also required, because of what he termed the "entourage effect." Without the THC, the CBD would either be less effective, or in some instances ineffective. http://blog.norml.org/2014/...-solution/
With the huge doses they give these children it's like getting drunk on beer vs getting drunk on moonshine. It just takes more beer than moonshine to have the same amount of being drunk.
